‘Mercy’ is hand-sculpted clay. ‘Compassion’ is hand-sculpted clay.

The sculptor Deborah Gall creates the heart with her hands from stoneware clay. Once formed, she passes the wet clay to Jessica, whom she mentors. Jessica then intuitively carves the clay to bring out the specific energy surrounding this creation. During this process, an energetic’ name emerges.

We carry that name through the Raku ‘birthing through fire’ process in which the wall sculpture is taken out of a red hot 1800° kiln and placed in a can of combustibles. Immediately the heart ignites, and fire swirls around the form. Smoke leaves its mark in unique, interesting patterns as it calms and cools.

Mercy feels like a heart wrapped in shifting layers — some textured like lived experience, some glazed in blazing copper that catches the light. At her center rests a single precious stone, quiet and valuable, waiting to be seen. She carries the feeling of a soul in active self‑discovery, peeling back each layer gently, learning what has always been inside. She feels like an unfolding truth, a being slowly revealing herself so she can be understood, celebrated, and finally liberated.
