‘Scarlett’ is hand-sculpted clay.

The sculptor Deborah Gall creates a feminine form with her hands from stoneware clay. Once formed, she passes the wet clay to Jessica, whom she mentors. Jessica then intuitively carves the clay to bring out the specific energy surrounding this creation. During this process, an energetic’ name emerges.

We carry that name through the Raku ‘birthing through fire’ process in which the wall sculpture is taken out of a red hot 1800° kiln and placed in a can of combustibles. Immediately the body ignites, and fire swirls around the form. Smoke leaves its mark in unique, interesting patterns as it calms and cools.

Scarlett holds the presence of someone shaped gently by time, a woman who has walked through her own storms and come out grounded, steady, and real. She feels warm and earthy, not dazzling like some of the others, but touched with a quiet, rustic beauty that comes from having lived deeply and risen with grace.
