Alice

Alice is hand-sculpted clay.

The sculptor Deborah Gall creates a feminine form with her hands from stoneware clay. Once formed, she passes the wet clay to Jessica. Jessica then intuitively carves the clay to bring out the specific energy surrounding this creation. During this process, an energetic’ name emerges.

We carry that name through the Raku ‘birthing through fire’ process in which the wall sculpture is taken out of a red hot 1800° kiln and placed in a can of combustibles. Immediately the body ignites, and fire swirls around the form. Smoke leaves its mark in unique, interesting patterns as it calms and cools.

Alice carries the sense of a feminine spirit in quiet communion with something larger than herself, open to what moves through and willing to be changed by it. She feels like a being who stands at the threshold between intuition and mystery, grounded yet listening for what the unseen world wants to reveal.
